A writer in a London paper of November last, says, "Tippoo Saib has taken a bloody revenge for the injuries his countrymen have experienced, and a British General and army have become the victims of that violated faith and disregard to every moral tie, in which he was instructed by the servants of the East India company; but though nature shudders at the bare relation of the horrid torments which General Meadows and his brave fellow soldiers have endured, yet these miseries can only be imputed to the company themselves, who, partaking of the spoil torn from the bleeding limbs of the miserable Indians, have constantly protected their infamous servants in their bloody depredations. How many princes have been dethroned! How many provinces laid waste! How many millions of the wretched people tortured and slain to gratify the griping avarice of these cruel tyrants! It is to them alone whom the mangled bodies of our countrymen cry for vengeance: from them, the widow demands her slaughtered husband: the child its parent: the country its soldier butchered in cold blood, to gratify the mad ambition of a company of merchants, who never make a friendship but with a design to betray, and have taught the princes of India a lesson, which they have now too fatally put in practice."
