To the Eds. Independent:

We are so thankful out here that Berkeley county can boast of a good weekly paper, in the INDEPENDENT, that I cannot help telling you so. The people all over the county should feel proud of it, and I know your subscription list, already large, must be rapidly increasing. We are glad to have one source that publishes the proceedings of the County Courts, and searches every nook for items of local interest. The proceedings of the Circuit and County Court are what we want, and I am glad to note they gave J.S. Bowers license to sell drinkables, especially as cherry time and green vegetables are here. Colic must be cured, you know. Wheat looks all right; but a little more rain now and then would be beneficial for the corn.
