Sylvia, Nov. 20 (AP)—In billows of smoke rising from prize timber land, scores of Jackson county residents today continued to fight—apparently losing—one against forest fires which have left more than 20,000 acres blackened and bare.

Damage done by the flames raging through the mountains and hollows for several days was estimated at $800,000 by W. D. Beichler, State district forester.

If towns and villages are menaced, Beichler said, he would ask Governor Ehringhaus to order militia out to battle the flames.
