Full Text

The re-election of the Hon. Mr. Knight to the Senate of the United States has struck the death blow to the ambitious views of Elisha R. Potter and his partizans. They have for the last six months been busily employed in creating dissension in the Administration ranks—they have traversed the state through, from North to South and from East to West to bring about dissatisfaction, and by that means to elect a candidate who might be subservient to their views and wishes. But when the hour of trial came and they found the Administration party to a man, united in support of one candidate, and at their mercy, they shrunk from the contest and gave it up as hopeless.
