JUNE 21, 1817.

Mr. Monroe has received the most devoted attention from all the political parties which divide the country.

The City Hall in New-York was brilliantly illuminated in honour of the President's arrival and transparencies were exhibited in front of the buildings and at the Theatre. On the 12th inst. in the morning the Commander in Chief, accompanied by Major-General Scott, visited the fortifications on Governor's Island, Bedlow's Island and the Navy Yard. He received salutation and greetings of the citizens, about noon at his Hotel in Wall Street, and at three o'clock proceeded to Brooklyn heights to view the fortifications erected during the late war. In the evening the President attended the Theatre, accompanied by the members of the corporation of the city and other distinguished citizens, and saw Cooper, play Macbeth in his very best style. The spectators received him with acclamations, and the orchestra with National Airs. He visited the Academy of Arts, the Hospital and New Alms-House, at Bellevue, and, other police establishments. On the 15th, he was initiated with the usual ceremonies in the Philosophical Hall, a member of the Literary and Philosophical Society of New-York; and in the evening of the same day, in the Assembly room of the City-Hotel, he was elected and introduced as a member of the American Manufacturing Society— on the 18th a member of the Historical Society. At 10 o'clock in the morning of the 14th inst. the President embarked on board the Steam Boat Chancellor Livingston, to proceed up the Hudson to West Point, where he arrived on the same evening, and the next day inspected the military Academy and fortifications upon this position.

On the 17th in the evening Mr. Monroe returned to New York in the Paragon Steam Boat, and proceeded immediately to Staten Island to the seat of the Vice President Tompkins. Next morning Wednesday last—between the hours of 4 and 5 the Steam Frigate, which had been preparing for his reception, was stationed off the Battery: and his Excellency and suite were transported in an elegant barge of 16 oars from the Head-Quarters of General Scott of the U. S. service to the frigate. He was accompanied by the Governor elect (Clinton,) his honour the mayor, Maj. Gen. Scott, Capt. Evans of the Navy and other naval and military officers.

The frigate proceeded to the narrows ten miles below the city, and the President visited the fortifications. He was landed at Staten Island on his return. On Thursday he was to examine the works erected by the citizens at Harlem heights—dined with General Stevens at his country seat, and on yesterday morning proceeded for New-Haven in the Connecticut Steam Boat.

He must have arrived at New-Haven yesterday evening, where Governor Wolcott, and the Committee of Arrangements were prepared to receive him, and he was to be escorted to his lodgings by the Governor's Horse Guards. The U. S. sloop Saranac would accompany the Steam Boat, and the arrival of His Excellency would be announced by the ringing of bells and the roaring of cannon.

This day all the uniform companies in the city and vicinity were expected to parade—and after the review, the President would visit Yale College.

The number of military posts to be examined by the President from New-London, where he will probably be on Tuesday, to Newport, and the circuitous route which he will be obliged to take if he visits Providence will probably delay his arrival in Boston until perhaps the 2d of July.

He is to visit Fisher's Island and Gardners Bay, which will occupy two whole days, and we understand a revenue Cutter is already prepared at Newport for that purpose.
