Full Text

That Southwest Louisiana is the high road to become one of the greatest producing sections in the State, goes without saying. Her soil is of the best, and the climate and surroundings for agricultural pursuits, stock-raising, fruit growing, etc., are more favorable than any other section of the South. Her people are awake, and recognize the importance of action in the cause of emigration, and to that end they have through the Executive of the State called a convention to assemble at Lake Charles on the 22d of February, 1887, to discuss agricultural interests, and to devise ways and means to induce the farmers of the Northwest to seek homes in our parish. That this convention will be a success there is no doubt. That the people of Louisiana will be benefitted by its labors there is no question. That Southwest Louisiana in general, and Calcasieu parish and the town of Lake Charles in particular, will in all probability be the principal beneficiaries cannot be disputed, and we say, one and all, let us put our shoulders to the wheel and make the Lake Charles Interstate Convention a thing of life and an honor to united effort on the part of our people.
