Key West Has 1 of 2 Sub Bases In East

Only one submarine base on the Atlantic coast, other than the Key West sub-base, will be open for public inspection on Navy Day, the Naval Base said today.

In fact, there is only one other submarine base on the entire East coast, namely the one at New London, Conn.

The installation here is also one of a bare dozen carried by the Navy Department as Naval bases, according to the Public Relations Officer of the local base. The others are Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Norfolk, Charleston, New London and Portsmouth on the East coast, and Puget Sound, San Francisco, San Pedro and San Diego on the Pacific coast.
