MR. RUSSELL,
I have noticed an observation in the Centinel, and in other papers, evincive of apprehensions, unfavorable to the Moderate Party, now paramount in France: But it should be observed in answer thereto, that even the professors of Moderation, ought, at the same time, to be the advocates of justice; and that to cure the Cancer of Jacobinism, required not only the caustic, but the incision-knife.
That the late cabalers in favour of Jacobinism, who have had the impudence, as well as ignorance, to declare to the world, "that the Committees of Government were Jacobins—the Convention Jacobins—the Generals Jacobins—the Armies Jacobins; and in short, that all France, was one great Jacobin Club," should so suddenly change their tunes; and declaim against Jacobins, is not extraordinary—for their opinions being founded entirely on party views, they were formed to be accommodated to any exigence: But that those who have been uniform in opposing Jacobin butcheries; and set their faces against the tyranny of a blood-thirsty demagogue, should inveigh against those who have torn the veil which hid from the public eye, those enormities, is strange—is "passing strange." I hope therefore, you will continue the elegant extracts from the speeches and writings of the patriotic and philosophic Freron; that the public may be convinced, that of all tyrannies, the tyranny of a demagogue is the most cruel.

Main Argument
the moderate party in france must advocate justice and use strong measures to eradicate jacobinism; former supporters' sudden opposition is opportunistic, while consistent critics should not be faulted for exposing atrocities, and freron's works should continue to reveal demagogue tyranny.
