Thursday arrived here Capt. Archer from Newfoundland, in whom came a Seafaring Man, who informs, That he sail'd from Bristol in Capt. Beach for this Place about the 25th of June last; and six Days after was taken by a French Man of War of 64 Guns called the Eagle, bound to Canada: That they took out a few Bales of Goods, and then burnt Beach's Vessel: That the 64 Gun Ship, in the Straits of Bell-Isle, was cast away on the 6th of August, but the People all saved, except about 12 Frenchmen who were sick on board; the Ship beat to Pieces in about two Hours: The whole Crew were upon an Island, but expected to be taken off soon, as Vessels were expected from Canada every Day for that Purpose.-- He adds, that he and seven more, about the 10th of September in the Night, got aboard a small Lighter and run away, and were 20 Days before they arriv'd at Newfoundland. Capt. Beach and all his Men, 45 in Number, were all alive and well when this Man got away.
