Steam Boat Explosion.

We learn from the Vicksburg Whig, that on the night of the 7th inst., the Steam Boat Persian, while ascending the Mississippi, a few miles below Napoleon, Arkansas, collapsed a flue, scalding thirty-four passengers, 19 of whom had died when the steamer Gen. Brown passed down, and it was thought that the rest of them could not survive. Besides those scalded, two young men jumped overboard and were drowned. It is said the Persian was racing with two other boats. When will Steam Boat Officers learn prudence?

Since writing the above, we have received the Vicksburg Whig of a later date, from which we gather the following list of names and residences of the sufferers:

Rev. H. K. Roach, Graves Co. Ky.
James Slaughter, Tenn.
Charles Nail, (slightly) Ireland.
John Cover, Pittsburg.
Oldroyd, Yorkshire, England.
John Barry, Ireland.
Jacob Brink, Germany.
Oliver Oldroyd, Yorkshire England.
Monroe Hazlet, Mo.
Wm. Narciss, Cin.
M. O'Neil, N. O.
J. Snyder, Union county, Ill.
John C. Campbell, Rockley, Miss.
Wm. Evans, Green county, Ky.
David Berry, Ireland.
Master Berry, Ireland.
B. Farrel, Hickman county, Ky.
Johanna Carroll, Jacksonville, Ill.
Ann Oldroyd, Yorkshire, Eng.
Newton C. Thomas, Carroll county, Tenn.
William Megwater, Cincinnati.
Peter McDonald, (deck hand.)
Bartholomew McKeilter, Ireland.
James Grammer, Union county, Ill.
William Bone, Hickman county, Ky.
Master Oldroyd, Yorkshire, England.

Since we have obtained the above names some five or six have died; and the situation they are all in, leaves scarce a hope, that six of the number will ever recover. The annexed are the individuals killed, as handed to us by the clerk of the boat:

David Gire, 1st Engineer.
John Williams, 2d Mate.
Oscar Brown, (colored fireman.)
Washington Marks, fireman.
Five children of Mrs. Oldroyd, and one child of Johanna Carroll.
