Up in Caswell County in 1886 the Caswell News reported a Negro man whose name was E. P. Baxter, or Emancipation Proclamation Baxter, because he had been born on January 3, 1863. Further search for unusual names brought to light Perseverance Jones, whose first child was named Patience because they were so often together. Then a Negro man was found named Tribulation Wholesome Alexander who was called both "Trib" and "Hole" for short. He had twin girls by the names of Cherubim and Seraphim, because, he said, like dem angels, dey continually do cry!
