Virginia Legislature.

In the Senate on Thursday, the resolutions from the House of Delegates in relation to the Compromise and South Carolina, were taken up, and, with some slight verbal amendments, were passed. These resolutions were criticized by some of the Democratic members; but their spirit and object, handsomely sustained by Mr. Thomas and others.

The bill providing for the incorporation of a company to construct a rail road from Covington to the Ohio river, with permission to the Virginia and Tennessee road and the Central road to connect therewith, was made the order of the day for Saturday. The section of the bill which authorized the connection of the Winchester and Potomac road with the Manassas Gap road at Strasburg, was stricken out at the instance of Mr. Thomas.

In the House of Delegates, the bill establishing the bank of the Old Dominion, at Alexandria, on the free banking principle, was amended, so as to authorize the establishment of similar banks at Norfolk, and Fredericksburg, and ordered to be engrossed, by a vote of 46 to 27. This bill was ably advocated by Messrs. Massey, of Alexandria, Burwell, Ferguson and Stubbs, and opposed by Messrs. Willis and Jones.

No other bill of an important character was acted upon.

In the House of Delegates, on Wednesday Mr. Massey of Alexandria, from a select committee, presented a bill concerning the Manassas Gap Railroad Company, and the Orange and Alexandria Railroad Company and asked that the rule be suspended so as to permit the bill to be read a first and second time, and ordered to its engrossment. He said that the bill simply asked permission to enable the President and Directors of the Manassas Gap Railroad to enter into an arrangement with the Orange and Alexandria Railroad Company, by which both companies might be enabled to use a section of road in common. The bill asked no money from the treasury, and he trusted no objection would be made to the motion. Mr. Jones opposed the motion, and the House refused to suspend the rule.
