Wayne Quarterly Meeting.

The August term of this meeting convened at Salem, Ohio, the 17th, 18th, and 19th of August. Brethren Whitcher, from the Chautauque Q. M. and Gilman, from the Monroe Q. M. were joyfully received to act with us; also, a brother Costin from the Susquehannah Yearly Meeting.

We received information by letter from all the churches belonging to this conference, save one, and find them, with very few exceptions, enjoying a good degree of engagedness in the cause of our Redeemer, and some of them are now favored with the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. During the year past four churches have been added to the Q. M. and one preacher commended. On Saturday, we assembled at 9 o'clock in the forenoon for worship; and the congregation was addressed during the day by Elders Cheney and Morse, and brother Costin: after which a number of exhortations were delivered, both by brethren and sisters, and the exercises of the day closed by several very solemn, and, we hope, effectual prayers to Almighty God for a number of the precious youth that came forward and kneeled before God and in the presence of the people, desiring salvation from him. Sabbath morning, Elder George Collins preached from the text "Blessed be the God," &c. Eph. 1:3,4: and was followed by brother Gilman from Mark 1:15.

In the afternoon, Elder Whitcher addressed the assembly in a lengthy discourse, founded upon the apostle Paul's address to the Corinthians, 2d epistle 5:11. He endeavored to show, 1st the certainty of a day of Judgment; and secondly, that the day of Judgment or decision would be subsequent to the resurrection of the righteous and the wicked from their graves. This he endeavored to prove, 1st, from plain declarations of scripture; secondly, by reasoning from the volitions of men, and the unequal distribution of rewards and punishments in this life; thirdly, closed with an appeal to the sinner in persuasive form, to enforce the necessity of an immediate close with the overtures of offered mercy, that they might escape the awful consequences of sin, and be able to stand before God in the great day of accounts. The discourse was followed with several exhortations, and a fervent appeal to the God of all grace, that he would assist the assembly by his Spirit, so to live that they may at last stand before the Son of Man, be acquitted from sin, and received into mansions of glory, prepared of old for the ransomed of the Lord. Our next Quarterly Meeting is to be held in New Lyme, to commence on the Friday before the third Sabbath in November next, at one o'clock in the afternoon.
