Full Text

A Pleasant Field of Labor. The Chicago Tribune speaks of ten thousand young girls passing through that city, on their way to the hop fields of the La Crosse Valley, Wisconsin. The demand for this kind of labor, according to the above paper, is urgent; the crop must be secured in a short space of time, and is done at such a season of the year that men cannot be obtained to do the requisite work, and hop raisers have to throw out such inducements in the way of extra bounties and wages as to draw from the country and the city the requisite number of girls and young ladies to do their work.
