Plans for the taking of a census
of unemployed in Nome and vicinity
were discussed this morning by
city officials, following the receipt
by Postmaster Guy E. Mish of
unemployment report forms.
Postmaster Mish took the matter
up with the city officials and
Chas. D. Jones has been appointed
to distribute the forms throughout
the city.
A proclamation has been issued
by the Mayor asking every person
either totally or partially unemployed,
to complete the forms and mail them
not later than midnight Saturday,
November 20th.
Should anyone have any difficulty
filling out the cards they are advised
to appear before either City Clerk
M. J. Walsh or City Attorney Sullivan,
who will assist them.
This is a national move on the part
of the administration to gain an
honest and accurate accounting of
the number of unemployed, to be
used in the formulating of a definite
program to remedy unemployment
throughout the United States. You
are urged to give this your immediate
attention and oblige.
E. B. Fisher, Superintendent of the
Office of Indian Affairs school and
agent here is handling the compiling
of Eskimos and native census of
unemployed.
