Governor Frank J. Lausche has officially proclaimed Friday, April 14 as Arbor Day in Ohio. His proclamation also designates April as Conservation Month and the week of April 10-14 as Conservation Week in the schools of Ohio.
"The citizens of Ohio", the proclamation declares, "must continue to recognize the importance of the conservation and restoration of our natural resources of soil, water, forests, minerals and wildlife. The people of Ohio must depend year after year upon the rich heritage of fertile top soil, unlimited deposits of minerals, vast acres of forests, unlimited sources of usable water and an abundance of wildlife and recreational facilities provided by these resources. These natural resources with which Ohio is so richly endowed cannot fail to meet the demands of progressive people in industry, business, agriculture and labor."
The annual observance of Conservation Month tends to remind citizens of the importance of these resources in preserving the principles of free enterprise and democracy through a program of conservation education in the schools and community activities sponsored jointly by the State Department of Education and the Department of Natural Resources.
Schools again this year will be provided with observance suggestions for Arbor Day and Conservation Week observance, together with practical materials, bulletin board posters and natural resources handbooks for use throughout the year.
