BURR RETAKEN.
Letters have been received in this place, a few days ago, from Nashville, stating that information had been received by the Natchez mail, of the apprehension of colonel Burr near Fort Stoddart. It appears that his object was to proceed to Pensacola; but having lost his rout, one of the persons who accompanied him, called at the Fort for information. The suspicions of the commandant, Lieut. Gains, were excited by the man's enquiring whether he knew of any English shipping being at Pensacola, and supposing it might be probable that col. Burr was the person for whom the enquiry was made, he lost no time in intercepting him. Lieut. Gains, being well acquainted with the country, took a short course, & with the assistance of a small party of soldiers from the Fort, apprehended the colonel and his companions. We could not learn, whether he was confined at Fort Stoddart or sent on to Natchez. Lieut. Gains, it is said, found governor Williams's proclamation for the apprehension of Burr, in the colonel's pocket.
