JOHN BOWMAN LOST
KENAI LAKE ICE

Late Saturday a telephone message was received at the U. S. Marshal's office of the apparent death by drowning of John Bowman, very well known here in Seward, in the waters of Kenai Lake.

Other reports which have since reached the city are rather confusing but the circumstances surrounding the case seems to be these:

Martin Mitchell reported he had found Mr. Bowman's blankets and sled near a hole in the ice; another report was that Bowman's partner saw him go thru the ice and endeavored to rescue him but failed.

Thus far the body has not been recovered.

Mr. Bowman was about 65 years old and had been cutting ties near where he is alleged to have lost his life, opposite Mile 20 from the Alaska Railroad, on this side of the lake and near where he had his camp.
