N. Y. Special to Courier-Journal, 20th.
The announcement that Mr. Edwin Booth had made a contract with Mr. Henry Irving to act in London has been received with much interest here. An effort to get at the details shows that no more than the general fact is yet to be obtained that Mr Booth has accepted an offer made him by Mr. Irving, and does not yet know the time or place at which he is to fill the engagement. Mr. Booth will go over in the spring, after his season ends here, and will probably play in the Lyceum Theater or in the Drury Lane. He will give the English the benefit of his entire repertory, but he expects to make a feature of his Hamlet, Iago and Richelieu. Mr. Booth once before appeared in London, acting there in 1861, under the management of John Baldwin Buckstone, the comedian, now on his death bed. It is rumored that the arrangement between Mr. Booth and Mr. Irving is reciprocal, and that the latter will come to this country next year and act, possibly under Mr. Booth's management. Mr. Booth will not take any professionals to Europe with him, but will rely upon English support.
