SEA FENCIBLES.—It is with pleasure we inform our readers that the masters and mates of vessels belonging to this port, have formed themselves into a company by the name of the Portsmouth Sea Fencibles, for the purpose of doing military duty and qualifying themselves for prompt and efficient exercise, and be a defence for the town in case of any assault by water. On Wednesday last, they held a meeting at Jefferson Hall, and elected Messrs. John Bowles, Captain; John S. Davis and Abraham Shaw, Lieutenants; William Appleton, Henry Salter, James Place & George Balch, Sergeants; Elibu D. Brown, Standard Bearer; Robert Henderson, Clerk. It is the general wish that this valuable institution may receive every possible encouragement from government.
