College Opened Thursday with Thirty-Eight Applicants to Freshman Class-Bright Prospects for the Institution.
Delaware College opened Thursday with the largest Freshman class in many years. In all 38 students have been admitted to this class, one to the Sophomore class and one to the Senior class. The ages of the new students range from 16 to 36. The average age is 18 years. Most of the newcomers are from Delaware and the Eastern Shore of Maryland, but there are also students from Pennsylvania, Ohio and New Jersey.
An increased proportion of the Freshmen are taking the Engineering courses. There are 11 entering the Civil Engineering course, 9 entering the Electrical Engineering course, and 2 the Mechanical Engineering course.
The whole number of students will probably reach 110.
It has been demonstrated that there is at least one very important advantage in attending a college the size of Delaware College, as it affords opportunities for individual instruction that are not to be had at some of the larger institutions. The instructors at Delaware College give as much individual instruction as possible. and the thoroughness of the work is now manifesting itself, as it has advertised the institution to an extent that is now known as one of the standard colleges of the country.
