ATLANTA, Ga.,—The 58th annual convention of the Peace Officers Assn. of Georgia, to be held in Macon, August 26-27, will be enlivened by the appearance of the governor, a former governor who is now Georgia's junior U. S. senator, the lieutenant governor, the attorney general and all candidates for the state's two highest offices.
The opening convention address will be delivered by Lieut. Gov. Ernest Vandiver, followed by one by Atty. Gen. Eugene Cook. Vandiver likely will return to the speakers' rostrum the morning of the second day. Reason: It'll be open time for candidates for governor—and he's very much a candidate.
Highlight of the afternoon session on the closing day will be an address by Gov. Marvin Griffin, who also will present safety awards to city and county officials.
He will be introduced by Twiggs County Sheriff Earl Hamrick.
The annual convention banquet, which brings the two-day meeting to a close, will be featured by an address by U. S. Sen. Herman E. Talmadge, under whose administration as governor the Georgia Peace Officers Annuity and Benefit Fund was established in 1950. He will be introduced by Col. W. C. (Peck) Dominy, director of the Georgia Department of Public Safety.
