Full Text

The Ericsson in the Potomac.

We learned from Washington last evening, that the famous Ericsson motor ship, with its newly invented caloric engine, was making her way up the Potomac towards Washington city, in compliance with the request of the Secretary of the Navy, that himself and all the learned dignitaries and the 'assembled wisdom,' may have a look at her. The mail route agent, Mr. Howard, reports that the mail steamer which comes up from Aquia creek, passed the Ericsson yesterday afternoon with her bow set directly for the metropolis. The Ericsson left New York at 3 M. on Tuesday last, but as it was understood that she was going on a short day cruise 'along shore,' experimentally, we suppose we are to judge nothing of her real capacity for speed from the result of this first trip. The Ericsson has arrived at Alexandria. Balt. Sun.
