Full Text

WASHINGTON, August 12, 1861.

Editor of the National Republican:

In the short article published in your paper of last Friday, you do injustice to a worthy officer of the Government, (Commissioner Dole,) while speaking of the departure of Dr. E. White to his post on the Pacific. While Commissioner Dole is anxious to take care of the public money intrusted to him, he has not confined Dr. White's expenditures to five hundred dollars. He advanced him that amount to enable him to enter upon the duties of his office.
