PORTLAND, TUESDAY, AUGUST 28, 1821.
The election is drawing to a close, without
having undergone much discussion in our paper.
We have heretofore expressed our views of the
subject, and urged the necessity of pursuing the
well beaten path of Federalism, which leads to
prosperity and happiness. In corroboration of
our own, we this day present to our readers the
sentiments of several valued correspondents, to
the exclusion of articles which we had prepared.
The gentlemen nominated for the Senate, in this
county, would do honor to any deliberative assembly, and we doubt not but they will be elected by a respectable majority. Although there
may not be the same unanimity in the selection
of a candidate for Governor, yet it is hoped that
every federalist will exercise his elective franchise in favor of one of the gentlemen suggested
by our correspondents; and should they fail of
success, they will have the satisfaction of reflecting that they have acted an honest and consistent part.
