The bill to grant a pension to John Baskerville, having been read a first time, (he not having been wounded or disabled) a discussion ensued upon the principles which had governed, or ought to govern the Legislature in such cases, when the applicant had not been wounded or disabled, in which Messrs Gilmer, Christian, Campbell of Bedford, Yancey, Green, Rives of P. George, and Williams of Shenandoah engaged finally, the bill was rejected by a large majority, thus deciding that pensions shall not be granted except when the applicant has been wounded.
On motion of Mr. Dyer, the Committee of Roads were instructed to enquire into the expediency of incorporating a company to construct a Turnpike from Danville, in Pittsylvania, by way of Henry Court House, to Evansham, in the county of Wythe.
On motion of Mr. Castleman,
The House adjourned.

On motion of Mr. Gibson, leave was given to bring in a bill amending the several acts concerning the Little River Turnpike, &c.
