A check for $10,330.65 from the sister Elizabeth Kenny Foundation has been deposited by the newly organized Montana state chapter, W. W. Gail, chairman, has announced.
The money represents the state's half of the net receipts from Montana Kenny drive last fall after 12 per cent was deducted for expenses of the national campaign. Montanans contributed $23,478 of which Laurel's share was about $1,000.
Scholarships for training nurses in the Kenny method of polio treatment will be provided from the fund, the state chairman reported.
Any registered or graduate nurse under 40 is eligible and may apply for a scholarship. Each scholarship, furnished jointly by the national foundation and the state chapter, provides for two years training at the Kenny institute in Minneapolis with all expenses paid, including tuition, room and board. Each scholarship amounts to $3,900.
Applications may be made with the state chairman. The next regular course will begin in January.
Montana is the only state in the Union which raised its per capita quota of the campaign last year," Gail pointed out. "The campaign did not raise the full amount sought for the purpose of enlarging the Kenny institute and for the training of nurses. It is hoped that this goal will be reached in this year's campaign, to run from November 18 to December 7."
A member of the Montana state committee is R. B. Packard of Laurel.
