Mr. Hayt, residing two or three miles below this place, had one of his children, a little boy about three years of age, very severely burned. The child followed its father out to a field near the house where he had been burning sedge, and it is supposed that in passing over the ground off of which the sedge had been burned its clothes took fire. Before the father, who was some sixty or seventy yards distant from the child when he discovered its clothes to be on fire, could reach it, it was so badly burned.
