From every quarter, the accounts of the political changes which are going on, are most animating, and afford strong reason to hope that the country will soon be redeemed from its present misrule, and arrested in its progress toward that vortex of despotism, to which, during the last three years, it has tended with such fearful rapidity. Thousands and tens of thousands, discovering the character of the idol which has been set up for their worship, are falling away from the faith, and no longer consider it an honor, to be crushed beneath the car of our political Juggernaut. Evidences of this change of opinion accumulate daily. In addition to those which we have published elsewhere, we may state, that, within a few days, three decided Jackson papers in Pennsylvania and two in New York have come about in favor of Henry Clay. In Philadelphia, a call has been made, for a public meeting of the Irishmen who have become naturalized citizens, and who are opposed to the re-election of Gen. Jackson. The call is signed by TWO THOUSAND naturalized citizens who supported Gen. Jackson at the last election but who are now opposed to him. Wm. B. Hinton, one of the Jackson candidates for electors in North Carolina has withdrawn his name from the list, declaring that he can no longer support his election. The two Jackson candidates for the Legislature in Mason County, Ky., have done the same. In another County, in that State, one of the Jackson County Committee has abjured his Jacksonism. and retired from his post. John Marshall, one of the ablest and most active Jackson men of that State, has abandoned the party in consequence of the Veto Message. We could go on if necessary, adding fact to fact to prove the extent of the change which is going on.
In connection with these facts, it is gratifying also to add, that an increased disposition appears to be manifested, among those who are opposed to the present administration, and who agree on the great principles of our government, to lay aside all minor differences and to unite cordially in the only means by which the present system of corruption and misrule can be brought to an end. In New York, the overthrow of the Albany Regency may be looked upon as certain. The example which has been set there, must have its influence in other States, and we cannot but feel assurance in the hope, that, as the delusion which led to the elevation of Gen. Jackson to power, spread with an unexampled rapidity, overwhelming all the dictates of prudence and reason, so, now that the charm is broken which bound the minds of men to his car, the return of the dominion of reason may be equally rapid, till Jacksonism shall find no rest for the sole of its foot, and till the government of the country shall be restored to the primitive simplicity and purity of its better days, from which it has been so widely estranged.
