COMMUNICATIONS.

To their honor be it said, the Clergy of the United States are constantly exerting themselves in preaching down Deism, and its fatal effects: while the Democrats and Jacobins (who now have the impudence to call themselves Republicans) are daily preaching in favour of Deism, or at least for a profest Deist (if not Atheist) for President of the United States, a man who has asserted that all oaths were eliminated from it. May it not be asked whether having any oaths in the Constitution; and whether a greater farce could be acted, than for the Chief Justice to administer an oath to such a man. Men who believe in the Christian religion, generally consider an oath binding: but it seems a Deist thinks them altogether superfluous. What would be the situation of society in a few years, were all our public officers Deists? Would not the people turn Deists also, and kick the Christian religion out of doors? In the name of that Religion, then, let all who regard it, use their influence in promoting the choice of such Electors as will give us A CHRISTIAN PRESIDENT.
