CALEXICO, April 9. — Eighteen Calexico boy scouts received advancement awards at a court of honor ceremony in Rockwood school Monday night, which attracted the largest crowd of the year to a scout activity here.
Les Dowe, chairman of the court of honor, reported that all assembly hall seats were taken, the back of the room was crowded and some persons peered in the windows of the school to watch the ceremony.
Troop 9 was awarded the prize for putting on the cleverest stunts, according to Scout Executive Hugh Wilcox, presenting a Mexican revolution skit and a comedy surgical operation. Troop 5 was winner of the attendance banner.
Awards were presented to Troop 1 by Ray Simmons, to Troop 5 by Morris Sattenger and to Troop 9 by Hugh Wilcox. W. A. McCampbell was principal speaker, and outlined the history of the lost Pegleg gold mine.
Scouts who received awards were: Masao Kawanami, Horace Pina, Albert Lowe, Edward Burdick, Gene Phillips, Roland Smith, Bob Kearney, Leslie Dowe, Bill Gallego, Rudy Lozano, Enrico Erquiaga, Alberto Rubidoux, Charles Fimbres, Antonio Astiazaran, Maurice Moreno, Arnold Yturalde, Umberto Barboza.
