Dr. John J. Van Gorder, left, and Dr. Charles H. Stevens, two noted Bible scholars and teachers, will head the Bible Conference to be held at the First Baptist Church of Roanoke Rapids each evening November 15-21.
Dr. John J. Van Gorder of Hendersonville and Dr. Charles H. Stevens of Winston-Salem will be the leaders of a Bible Conference which will be conducted at the First Baptist Church of Roanoke Rapids each evening at 7 o'clock from November 15 to November 21.
Dr. Van Gorder was pastor of the First Baptist Church of Butler, Pa, for 19 years. In 1938 he was instrumental in having built a large tabernacle in Butler to be used in his work, giving the city its largest auditorium.
He is the author of a chapter-by-chapter, verse-by-verse exposition of the entire Bible written to be used with Sunday School lessons, and he has designed large colored Biblical charts which have been used in conference work throughout the U. S. and Canada. Dr. Van Gorder's headquarters are now in Hendersonville.
Dr. Van Gorder during the week will speak on the following subjects: Where Are You Living?: Where do unbaptized babies go when they die?: Professors or possessors, which?: God's Eternal purpose for every believer: Born from above- a scientific truth; What takes place at the judgment seat of Christ?: the blank space in the Bible; Russia in the endtime; and the Jew-the key to the present world situation.
Dr. Stevens, who will also appear during the Bible Conference here, is pastor of the Winston-Salem Baptist Church and president of the Piedmont Bible Institute. He is noted as a Bible scholar and teacher and will lecture on St. Paul's letters to the Romans.
Dr. Stevens will speak on the following: Three characteristics of a degenerate age; God's remedy for a lost world; A new humanity; Israel-her past, present and future: and the Christian's walk in a hostile world.
On Saturday evening, November 20, there will be shown the sound moving picture "the God of Creation."
The public is invited to all Conference meetings.
