The Marquis of Caermarthan.—We have received a note, severely rebuking and correcting us for our little notice of the Manhattan Bank election, in our yesterday's paper. Our unknown correspondent rebukes us for our gross ignorance of etiquette, in putting Right Honorable before the title of a Marquis, when, he says, every child in the United Kingdom knows a peer in that rank to be entitled to the style of "most noble". He insists we are entirely in the wrong about the whole of the title, vindemic and rank of the noble individuals abroad, in whose control are the votes on the Dulany stock, from whom the worthy cashier holds his proxies. He, moreover, rates us for our misrepresentation of the amount—which, he says, instead of being only 250,000 dollars, as we stated, is nearer, if not above, half a million.

Dr. O'Toole said last night, "we admit the sa. imputation." We believe we were incorrect in several particulars; especially in stating the amount of this foreign stock in the Manhattan so much below its true amount. As to titles, etiquette, and the names and style and residence of the British Peerage, we must confess that we, being poor democrats of the rank and file, are in much darkness and ignorance. But, like the good Vicar of Wakefield, who took so much pains to be correct about the name and style of Lady Caroline Whilhelmina Skeggs, "we like to be particular about such matters;" and, therefore, pray our correspondent to take our error in good part, to have pity upon our democratic ignorance, and to inform us with accuracy, precision, and in full, as to the matters wherein we have erred, touching his Right Honorable or Noble friend or friends.

N. Y. Eve. Star.
