STOLE $1.50.
Last evening at the police hearings, William Bowman charged Joshua Cooper with stealing two dollars that belonged to him. In his testimony Bowman stated that when he went to work in the morning he left two dollars in the pocket of his vest which was hanging in his room, and that when he came home the money was gone. He went to Cooper, and told him that he took the money. The prisoner being allowed the privilege of speaking said that he did not steal two dollars. The squire: How much did you steal? The prisoner: I stole $1.50. I found it on the lounge tied up in a handkerchief. I spent the money for cigars. Cooper was taken back into the cells under sentence of $200 bail for court.
