The Federal government is now conducting four major programs of technical assistance in carrying out President Truman's Point Four program for development of the world's economically backward areas.
Listed in the fourth progress report on the program, published by the Office of Public Affairs in the Dept. of State, they are:
1--The cooperative, scientific and technical programs of the interdepartmental Committee on Scientific and Cultural Cooperation now conducted under the U. S. Information and Educational Exchange Act.
2--The programs of the Institute of Inter-American Affairs in Latin America in the fields of education, food supply, and health and sanitation.
3--The technical assistance activities of the Economic Cooperation Administration, carried on in the ECA countries and in their dependent overseas territories.
4--A number of smaller or geographically restricted programs such as the Philippine Rehabilitation program, the Latin-American training program of the U.S. Maritime Commission, the Liberian Economic Mission, and the program of the Public Roads Administration developing the Inter-American Highway.
