SEMI-ANNUAL MEETING
CLAIM AGENT BURLEIGH OF SHORT LINE RESIGNS.
Salt Lake will entertain a distinguished lot of railroad traffic officials today. They are:
President Horace G. Burt of the Union Pacific. President A. L. Mohler of the Oregon Railway & Navigation company, General Passenger Agent E. L. Lomax of the Union Pacific. General Freight Agent J. A. Munroe of the Union Pacific, Traffic Manager Benjamin Campbell of the Oregon Railway & Navigation company, General Passenger Agent A. L. Craig of the Oregon Railway & Navigation company, Thomas Schumacher, general agent freight department, and D. W. Hitchcock, general agent freight department Union Pacific, San Francisco.
The conclusion is that matters of importance will be considered. President Burt and party from Omaha, will arrive this morning and the Navigation people reach here this morning, also, from Portland. The San Francisco agents will be here merely for the purpose of making reports, it is believed, but the congregation of the big officials may develop something unusual.
Local officials of the Oregon Short Line, who will, of course, take part in the conference, say that this is but the semi-annual round-up of officials in the Union Pacific system, and claim to believe it is a meeting where "routine matters" will be discussed. They say Salt Lake was chosen on account of its central location. However that may be, there are those who say this meeting will have something to do with the traffic department of the Oregon Short Line, which is now without a head. Mr. Schumacher's name has been mentioned in connection with the position left vacant by Mr. Eccles' resignation, as has Mr. Campbell's.
The officials were to have met yesterday, but President Burt was delayed in Omaha.
