ANOTHER MOVE TO DEFEAT PROTECTION
Mr Preston, of South Carolina—on this State, who has gone with the locos against Protection throughout—moved in the Senate to raise the duty on coarse wool of a value less than 7 cts per pound to 20 per cent.—DECLARING HIS OBJECT TO BE, after that was carried, to MOVE TO REDUCE THE DUTY ON OTHER WOOL—of a value over 7 cents per pound from 50 per cent to 20 per cent—and the locos L. the P. voted with him for the amendment. This if carried out would have given only 20 per cent Protection to the Wool raised in Vermont, while by the present bill it is Protected by a duty of 50 per cent.
Extra Vt. Patriots have been abusing this region, containing the move by Preston, in the Senate in reference to wool, unaccompanied by the DECLARATION THAT IT WAS HIS DESIGN IN DOING THIS TO REDUCE THE DUTY ON ALL WOOL DOWN To 20 per cent —MORE THAN ONE HALF OF WHAT IS PROPOSED BY THE BILL. THIS IS THE LATEST and most INFAMOUS FRAUD UPON THE PEOPLE PUT FORTH BY THE LOCOS. Let no one be cheated by it.
