The sloop Ann, from Virginia loaded with 450 bushels of oysters, 2000 terrapins, and 3000 staves, was drifting in ice and run foul of by a brig that had parted her cable, staving in the sloop's quarter deck, rails, stern, etc. The sloop made fast to a schooner astern, saving the people, then sunk in half an hour in five fathoms water two miles below Chester.
