The Legislature of Maryland assembled at Annapolis on Monday, but nothing was done beyond the qualification of members. On Tuesday John G. Chapman was elected Speaker of the House, and Geo. G. Brewer, Esq., Clerk.—In the Senate, Mr. Williams, of Somerset, was unanimously elected President, and the other officers the same as last year. We learn from the Annapolis papers, that the name of Reverdy Johnson, John P. Kennedy, and Joseph J. Speed, of Baltimore city; John Wethered, of Baltimore county; John Johnson, of Annapolis; Col. Wootten, of Prince George's; William Price of Allegheny, are spoken of in connection with the appointment of a U. S. Senator.
