Flu Slays Poor Mexicans.

Ravages of Spanish influenza among the poor charcoal burners who live in the mountains surrounding the Mexican capital are said to be responsible for the unprecedented price which that commodity is bringing. In the last month charcoal, which is generally used for cooking purposes, has increased about 300 per cent in cost.

The municipality has made arrangements to buy this product in quantities and retail it at reduced figures. One paper in the capital states that almost 90 per cent of the Indians who supplied the City of Mexico with the fuel were victims of the scourge.
