About 3000 one-time gold seekers, from all parts of the United States, Canada and Alaska, will assemble for the reunion, Chairman Fred J. Wettrick estimated. It was at Seattle, in the late 90's, that they gathered to sail for the northern bonanzas.
Hopes of Riches Blasted
Most of them came back without the fortunes they hoped to find, but with memories of one of the world's most spectacular rushes. They are middle-aged and old now, but still consider themselves "sourdoughs." The nickname comes from the staple "sour-dough" bread of the Northland.
Among the men who will come back to Seattle for the reunion are former Governor William Sulzer of New York, former Governor Thomas Riggs of Alaska, Mayor Joe Clark of Edmonton, Alta., and A. V. Buel, Fresno, Calif., cartoonist. Clark and Buel will meet for the first time in 31 years.
Miners who sought wealth on various leads and strikes will recall old days at their own tables at the banquet, an important feature of the stampede. The Dome Creek Miners will have a table, the former employees of No. 7 Eldorado another, and those who worked for No. 16 Eldorado a third.
Picnics, sports, a ball and other events will make up the reunion program. But most important will be meeting of old friends and exchange of memories of days in the Far North, when they were much younger, and fortunes were made and lost every day.
