KING OF SWEDEN.
By the Anna, from Hamburg several German papers are received, which contain many particulars of the assassination of the King of Sweden. The conspirators were only three in number, viz. Count Horn, Count Ribing, and Capt. Ankarström, amongst whom lots were cast, to determine who should be the immediate executioner of their design. The lot falling on Ankarström, he prepared himself with two pistols, the one designed for the murder of the King, the other for himself. Count Horn gave the signal of destruction. The King was in a mask, walking with his Queen.--The Count, on discovering him gave his signal by approaching, clapping his Majesty on the shoulder, and saying, "Bon soir, Masque"--on which Ankarström fired.
Gustavus, it appears, preserved great presence of mind during the residue of his existence, and supported the pangs of an excruciating dissolution with a magnanimity that charmed and affected even his most inveterate enemies.
