Twenty-two years ago last July, Paul M. Buckwalter came to Bisbee and since that time he has been an active figure in the field of banking in the city and also keenly interested in business and civic affairs there. Last night, as a means of attesting his popularity, there were between 50 and 75 of the business leaders of the hill city present at a complimentary dinner given for Mr. Buckwalter. It was both a compliment to the high esteem in which he is held and a farewell to him as he turns to another field, as he will leave shortly for Los Angeles where he will be associated with one of the foremost banking houses of the Pacific coast. His banking connection will be at Riverside but he will be in Los Angeles for some three months now.
The dinner was given at the Club Social in Agua Prieta. Fred Sutter was toastmaster. There were speeches by numerous ones before the evening ended but the ones scheduled for talks on the program were Cleon T. Knapp, Walter Roche, Paul Tyler, Andy Little and Harry Hayes, the first two being well known Bisbee lawyers and the others leading figures in the business world of the city. Mr. Hayes is superintendent of the Copper Queen mining properties, Mr. Little manager of the Phelps Dodge store and Mr. Tyler a construction contractor.
While no presentation was made at the dinner, the party giving the dinner will present him with an elegant gold watch prior to his departure.
