New Markers Have Been Placed Directing Traffic Out of Granite City on Cooper Avenue
At 9:00 a. m. Thursday the recently completed strip of paving on highway number three leading out of St. Joseph toward St. Cloud will be opened to the public. With the opening of the recently completed stretch the detour which has been in use for some time is to be discontinued.
A crew of men from the maintenance office of the highway department here were out Wednesday to change the road marking and from now on the road via Cooper avenue, which has just been reconditioned, will accommodate St. Joe traffic. There has been some delay on the paving project and it is doubtful if concrete will be poured on the second stretch of roadway until next week.
There is little doubt, however, but that the entire paving project will be completed within contract time.
The stretch which has been completed and which will be opened to traffic tomorrow is two miles long and leads from St. Joseph to the point where it joins the newly marked highway. The Cooper avenue road will be discontinued as a trunk highway when the paving project is completed and the new road opened to the public. St. Cloud Journal-Press of July 3.
