Full Text
Evidence accumulates that until our people go earnestly to work and make better country roads, no effort to secure emigration to our otherwise desirable section can be successful. A case in point is thus cited by a correspondent of the Knoxville Chronicle: Col. C. W. Charlton was in Greeneville last week in company with some parties from Pennsylvania who were prospecting with the intention of purchasing land. The land suits them very well, and the prices asked were considered reasonable, but the great drawback is, our miserable roads. As remarked by Col. Charlton, we can never expect much emigration here until we improve our road system.
