Michener Claims O.P.A. Obstacle to Reconversion
By Esther Van Wagoner Tufty

Washington Congressman Earl Michener maintains that the present OPA formula for cost price adjustments of manufacturers and selling prices of retailers is a definite "obstacle to immediate reconversion."
The Adrian Republican has no quarrel with the "apparent objective of the OPA," but finds a difference between theory and practice.
Small businesses are not in a position to operate at a loss for six months, as suggested by the President in his recent speech, before they can appeal for price increases.
As to the retailer, the OPA edict "is not only nonsensical but preposterous," he said.
Retailers must absorb price increases allowed the manufacturers, to say nothing of their own overhead.
He added, "this is injustice spelled with a capital."
Michener declared something must be done now about these conditions and prohibitions against reconversion. All are agreed that prices to the consumer should not be permitted to soar to unjustifiable heights.
