Full Text

Important Proposition.--It will be seen by an abstract of the proceedings of Congress, that a proposition has been submitted for a thorough investigation of the affairs of the several Departments of the general government. The idea is a novel one; but we are not prepared to say such an investigation would not be attended with consequences highly beneficial to the country. The letters of "A Native of Virginia," and the appalling list of Public Defaulters annually reported in the Black Book of the third Auditor of the Treasury, is beginning to open the eyes of the people, who have in many instances too long reposed a blind confidence in men, without stopping to inquire any further than into their political characters.
