Full Text

This gentleman did the Young Whigs of Cincinnati the honor of taking something to eat and drink at their expense on Saturday. He also made them a speech, whereat they were all most rapturously enraptured. In the evening the Col. went to the play, where he was particularly well received by Jim Crow, who was luxuriating in the character of Skeredebil. The "nigger" gave him a toast, at which the Colonel seemed marvellously tickled, and all the young whigs laughed. After looking at his watch half a dozen times, and discovering, very much to his surprise, that eleven o'clock will catch a man out of his bed in Cincinnati as easily as in Washington, he adjourned to Ringgold's, called for a glass of brandy and sugar, peppered it with nutmeg, swore a moderate oath or two at Gen'l Jackson, swigged off his liquor, told a young whig to pay for it, and then made sail for his sleeping quarters at the Cincinnati Hotel, where he snoozed it quite comfortably until ten o'clock in the morning. In the meantime a committee of young whigs had written a speech for him, which is published to-day in the Intelligencer. At eleven o'clock he embarked for Tennessee, and left the young whigs almost in a state of despondency. Such is a brief account of the astonishing ingress of Col. Crockett into this city, his progress through it, and his egress out of it. If the whigs have a better story to tell about it, let them tell it.
