Pan Am Gets Backing
In Bid to Fly Great Circle
From California to Japan

SAN FRANCISCO, The San Francisco Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a resolution Monday asking President Eisenhower to grant approval for Pan American Airways to fly the great circle route from California to Japan.

Los Angeles' Mayor Norris Poulson said his city would be glad to join with San Francisco in urging the President to approve Pan American's application to fly the shorter route over the North Pacific. Northwest Airlines is the only air line presently authorized to travel the great circle from Seattle to Tokyo.

Pan American planes, if they were allowed to fly the route, would stop at Los Angeles and San Francisco.
