DENTON ROTARIANS ENTERTAINED WITH BANQUET AND DANCE

The vanquished banqueted the victors last evening when the local Rotary club gave a dinner for the visiting Rotarians of Denton at the Chamber of Commerce, following the ball game of the afternoon. President John R. Dexter presided and he wielded the ax in regular woodsman style. And every man showed due respect for the dignity of the head of Rotary in Ardmore. For as a gavel the genial chairman used a common wood-ax, and he called the assemblage to order with vehemence, and his decisions were never questioned.

A welcome address was given by Mayor R. A. Hefner, and he took occasion, and rightly, to extol the advantages of Ardmore as a city of vast opportunities, and an ideal city in which to live. It was an evening of merriment and the Denton representative who responded, retorted with telling the story of the man in California who forgot himself on the occasion of speaking at a funeral: and instead of praising the deceased, the Californian enthusiastically spoke on the California climate. All persons were again assured that they had a booster for Mayor at Ardmore.

Talks were made by the following from Ardmore who were asked to tell why the game was lost: Tom Frame, J. B. Champion, Arthur Straehley, Earl Brown, Ed Dalt, and Charley Richards. The above spoke alternately with the following men from Denton: Hol Wynne Rey, Mr. Collins, W. Edwards, Jerry Fowler, and Bally Williams.

Mrs. P. I. Jeffries played and sang several songs, a feature of the evening's program. The Rotarians showed their appreciation of this part of the entertainment.

A feature of the trenches that perhaps should have been mentioned, was the alleged challenge on the part of the baseball team at the Confederate Home for a clash with the Rotarian team. Joe Ben Champion read the challenge from the Old Soldiers Home to the host laughter of the persons present.

It was suggested during the evening's program that since the Ardmore team had defeated the Denton team in the game played at Denton and that the Ardmore team was defeated by the Denton team in a game at Ardmore, that their game should be played, and the matter of playing a third game on neutral ground, perhaps at Gainesville, is under consideration.

Following the banquet and program at the Chamber of Commerce, the Ardmore Rotarians invited the members of the Denton club to the roof garden of the Ardmore Hotel, where dancing was enjoyed.
